The changes I would like to see in my country
Write an article suitable for publication in a national newspaper on the topic “The changes I would like to see in my country."
The recent frequent changes in government that have been brought about as a result of the inefficiency of various administrations have resulted in disappointment for almost all the citizens of the country. The candidates, with their eyes on the ultimate prize of becoming the president of the country, tend to make false promises to the citizens. This problem thus leads to the inability of governments to solve pressing issues on the ground. In this article, I wish to make known to the leaders of the state most, if not all, of the changes we would like to see in our dear country.
First and foremost, the once Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education should be re-enacted. Education, if I'm permitted to say so, is the backbone of almost all developed countries. The Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education, which ensured that all children between the ages of 4 and 12 were equipped with the basic principles of all the various subjects without having to shell out a dime for it, also ensured that all young couples in the nation who were ‘commencing their love life’ would be freed of the burden of having to pay for Basic Education. The Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education, shortened as FCUBE, which was in the system for a while, has not been implemented for some years now. It would be the wish of all parents and guardians if the FCUBE were brought into action once again.
Another change we, the citizens, would like to see materialised is the provision of certain basic amenities such as good pipe-borne water, roads, electricity, and the like. These basic amenities aforementioned have the capability to turn certain situations in the various homes around. Most small-scale industries depend on some of these amenities for their existence and survival when these resources are not provided. One of the essential amenities—electricity—is the core power source of about 75% of the small-scale industries, and hence it is the wish of the managing directors of these industries to have a constant supply of electricity. Thus, the government will be praiseworthy if they see to the seizure of the recent ‘Dumsor-Dumsor’.
For another change, I would like the government to see to the end of the recent wave of criminal activities throughout the country. The police service, whose work I commend for all the hard work they put up for their homeland, has seen its efforts questioned due to the recent crime wave in the country. Thus, we would all like to see control over these activities so that the trust we once had in the police would be regained.
Another change that I would like to see in my country is the provision of pro-bono services to the less wealthy individuals who cannot afford the services of a counselor. Pro-bono is a condition where an individual who cannot afford the services of a legal advisor is provided one free of charge or at a discount rate. This change would bring about a more stable community in which the defenceless individuals who have their cases sent to the law court are given legal service for free. This would see to the end of the tension created in the homes of such individuals and also provide a fair hearing for them at the law court.
The last change I would like to see in my nation is the fair sharing of its resources. There has been a recent development hovering over our dear motherland, which is a result of the unequal sharing of the nation’s resources. This development was brought about as a result of the gigantic amounts of money that are paid to those in higher authority, for instance, the Members of Parliament and the Ministers of State. This has created a lot of tension in most communities. The foreground workers complain most of the time, leading to periodic strikes by the various unions in the state. Thus, a wise share of the country’s resources would lead to stability throughout the various unions, and it would spread to the whole country.
These changes, when effected, would lead to a whole change in the country and also lead to political stability. I recommend to the president of the nation that he see to the establishment of these changes to bring about a more stable country.
Long live Ghana.
