75 Hard Summary

In ways you never expected, "75 Hard" pushes you to your physical and mental limits. So you get to unleash your inner boss, which is a great feeling. Mental toughness may be developed by doing the right thing even when you don't feel like it, and this is a great way to get there.

Five key tasks must be completed every day for 75 straight days as part of the challenge, including:

1. Take a snapshot of your progress.

2. Ingest 3.785 litres of water.

3. Perform two workouts that last for a total of 45 minutes each, with at least one of them taking place outside.

4. Eat healthily (and no cheat meals).

5. Please read ten pages from a book that is not fiction.

As someone who has done this for 75 days, I can state without a doubt that it's an excellent way to build mental toughness. And Andy's book, 75 Hard: A Tactical Guide to Winning the War with Yourself, is a great place to start.

This book and the challenge have taught me the following three valuable life lessons:

  1. 75 Hard aims to improve mental toughness, which is a prerequisite for achieving happiness and fulfilling your life's ambitions.
  2. For the 75-Hard challenge, you must execute five essential duties for 75 days in a row without missing a beat.
  3. If you want to finish the challenge, you need to be aware of and ready for each of the different time periods.

Let's get down to business and build up our mental fortitude!

Lesson #1: Andy Frisella, the creator of 75 Hard, believes that mental toughness is the key to happiness and success.

Andy Frisella's childhood wasn't all that exciting. But his father was there for him and taught him how to be self-disciplined.

Andy would use this lesson to put in years of hard work to develop a highly successful business after this lesson. Before the night he nearly died, everything seemed to be going great.

In the middle of the night, Andy was walking home from the club when he heard a man in the backseat of a car making racist remarks about one of his buddies. The man attacked Andy when he tried to move away from him.

Andy was stabbed multiple times in the face, yet he survived. The ache had subsided, but the scars remained. He was humiliated by the constant questions from strangers, and he was ready to give up.

In the end, after chatting to a woman who had facial scars similar to his own, he concluded that the time for moping was over. Andy, on the other hand, decided to start a podcast in order to talk about his experiences in business and life.

He had a guest one day who had finished 50 Ironmans in 50 days across all 50 states in the space of 50 days. Andy learned from him that having a strong mental fortitude is essential to one's happiness and success. Putting yourself in uncomfortable situations is a good way to learn this.

The remarks of this guest inspired Andy to establish the 75 Hard Challenge in order to share his knowledge of mental toughness with others.


Lesson #2: Achieving the 75 Hard challenge requires completing five tasks every day for 75 consecutive days.

In order to develop the mental fortitude needed for anything in life, the 75 Hard challenge is highly recommended.

Committing to a diet is the first and most important step. As long as it's a health-related endeavor, it's fine. But if you don't keep to it, there will be no reward dinners. Naturally, this excludes alcoholic beverages.

Drinking a gallon of water a day is the second most important duty. You can use this as a reminder that you're doing this for the sake of your own well-being because water is a universal metaphor for life.

Two 45-minute workouts are the next crucial step. It's imperative that at least one of them be situated outside. The days when my workouts were limited to a brisk walk counted!

Reading ten pages of a self-improvement nonfiction book is an absolute must for the fourth and final step in the process. Audiobooks don't count, but e-readers do!

To wrap things off, the fifth and last step is to snap a progress photo. Most folks forget about this one. Do it every day at the same time by setting an alarm!

Also, if you skip any of these, you'll have to start from scratch.


Lesson #3: To complete the task, you must be aware of and ready for each of the eight "eras" that it has to offer.

A lot of new information will be learned in the first 7–10 days of 75 Hard. Through a series of events, I learned things about myself, my habits, and my excuses that I hadn't known before.

Days 8–14 are a time of exploration, self-discipline, and risk. The value of your time will rise as a result. You'll be perplexed as to why you ever doubted your ability to push yourself beyond In time, the initial euphoria will fade.

For some, the next 15–21 days will be defined by eliminating excuses, expanding exponentially, and resigning.

A huge transformation and "The Moment of Manifestation" will begin to take place during days 22-28. When you start picturing yourself as a superhero, you'll begin to transform.

When you reach days 29–35, you've become so laser-focused that you've reached a state of flow. You begin to feel more confident.

As you near the finish of your journey, you'll begin to feel more like yourself and begin to experience automation.

A level of expertise is reached between day 50 and day 63, but you'll begin to lose interest.

Once you're in "God" mode from day 64 to the end, you can't lose. You'll be able to use your mental toughness in any situation you find yourself in!
