You saw a fight between two of your classmates and your class teacher has asked you to give an account of the fight. Write your account. [1992 BECE English Paper 2]
The above falls under a narrative essay and below is a model answer to the question above:
On the afternoon of Tuesday, February 21st, 2023, I was present during a physical altercation between two of my classmates, Sarah and Mike. The incident occurred in the school hallway during a break between classes.
The argument started as a small verbal disagreement, but quickly escalated into physical aggression. Sarah pushed Mike, causing him to lose his balance and fall to the ground. Mike retaliated by grabbing Sarah by the hair and attempting to punch her. Both students were shouting at each other and it was clear that emotions were running high.
As a witness to this altercation, I immediately went to get help from a teacher. Another student also ran to get help, and within a few minutes, several teachers had arrived to break up the fight. The teachers were able to separate the students and took them to the principal's office.
After the incident, it became clear that there were underlying issues between Sarah and Mike that had been simmering for some time. Both students had been experiencing stress in their personal lives, which had spilled over into their interactions with each other. They both expressed regret over their actions and were willing to work towards resolving their differences.
As a witness to this altercation, it was clear to me that both Sarah and Mike were at fault for their actions. However, it was also evident that there were underlying factors contributing to their behavior. It is my hope that the school will work with both students to address these issues and help them learn how to better manage their emotions and resolve conflicts peacefully in the future.
In conclusion, as witnesses to any physical altercation between students, it is important to seek help from an authority figure as soon as possible to prevent the situation from escalating further. It is also important to recognize that there may be underlying issues contributing to the behavior, and to approach the situation with empathy and understanding while also holding the students accountable for their actions.
