How to Learn French Numbers
- Start by learning the basic numbers from 1 to 10: un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf, dix.
- Practice counting in French, starting from 1 and going up to 20. Repeat this exercise until you feel comfortable with the pronunciation.
- Once you have mastered the numbers from 1 to 20, move on to the numbers from 21 to 100. These numbers are formed by combining the numbers 20, 30, 40, etc. with the numbers 1 to 9. For example, 21 is vingt-et-un (twenty-one), 22 is vingt-deux (twenty-two), and so on.
- Memorize the numbers from 100 to 1000: cent, deux cents, trois cents, quatre cents, cinq cents, six cents, sept cents, huit cents, neuf cents, mille.
- Practice counting in French from 1 to 1000, using the numbers you have learned so far.
- Finally, learn the ordinal numbers (first, second, third, etc.) in French, which are formed by adding -ième to the cardinal numbers. For example, premier (first), deuxième (second), troisième (third), and so on.
Remember, the key to learning French numbers is practice and repetition. Find opportunities to use the numbers in context, such as when telling time, giving your phone number, or counting objects. With time and practice, you will master French numbers in no time!
